Motion Raceworks Rocky Mountain Race Week Daily Coverage: Day One Action From Thunder Valley

Rocky Mountain Race Week is in the books, and we were traveling the route with all these folks so we could bring you the FREE livestream that we had going all week long. It was a week full of fun, adventures, carnage, and more, but even if you were there you wouldn’t have been able to see it all. There is that much going on! But thanks to the folks at Motion Raceworks we’ve got more cool video coverage from the entire week and we’re going to share it all with you one day at a time. They were on-site with their parts merch trailer and were helping people out with great stuff all week long. This is the first video from Day One at Thunder Valley in Noble Oklahoma, which means everyone is racing and there is no on road carnage or anything yet. This is the day where everyone thinks everything is great and that they can win this whole thing. Spirits are high. At least until the racing gets going.

Why? Because some of these poor folks are going to tear their stuff up before they ever get to leave the first track. The good news is that they have all night to work on them because we don’t leave for the next track until the next morning, and the drive isn’t horrible from Thunder Valley to the Texas Motorplex in Ennis. Plus, there is the World’s Largest Summit Racing Equipment store on the way and it’s full of great parts to fix most anything.

Between Summit and the Motion Raceworks trailer full of parts, there was no shortage of new stuff going on hot rods Sunday night.

NHRA Photos: More Nitro Funny Cars From The NHRA Winternationals In July, At Pomona

 

(Photos by Wes Allison) It’s our second gallery of NHRA Nitro Funny Car photos, so check them all out right here! And if you missed any of our other galleries, click the link at the bottom to see them all. Nitro is a riot to watch at night, and especially when it lights up the sides of a nitro burning Funny Car like the ones pictured in our gallery below. The NHRA Winternationals may have been happening in July in 2021, but that doesn’t mean the race in Pomona didn’t mean as much to the competitors as it does when it is the season opener. This is an event in the backyard of NHRA’s headquarters and the home of hot rodding in general. This is a special race in a special place and everyone brings their A-game when racing in Pomona.

With all kinds of events being canceled in 2020, and with California leading the charge on restrictions for events, it is no shock that the 2021 NHRA Winternationals in Pomona didn’t happen as scheduled either. But NHRA knew it was going to happen this way because of their close relationship with the LA County Fairgrounds where the famed dragstrip is located so they were able to pivot and make things happen for a Winternationals that would instead happen in the summer. Wait, what? The Winter Summer Nationals? Well, yeah.

I give NHRA big credit for making this thing happen, even if what to call it has become a funny issue. But we’re still going to call them the Winternationals, the event that is SUPPOSED to start off the season in Pomona, because that is what they are even if they get postponed. Lucky for us we have a great group of photographers who have been shooting for us the past week, and this weekend is Wes Allison shooting all the Pro and Sportsman action he can get his camera pointed at.

Saturday’s racing action starts up around 9am Central time, so get your breakfast and a beverage and get ready for some high speed action on the water!

That’s right folks, the Season Opener for the Southern Drag Boat Association is this weekend in Bryan Texas and the racing action starts Friday morning LIVE right here on BANGshift.com. We’ll have all the racing action coming to you all weekend long so remember to tune in. And remember, boat races happen during the day so we will not be racing at night. Racing starts in the morning where we expect awesome conditions and great temperatures in Texas. If you are nearby, come on down and watch great racing. It’s as little as $10 a day for a ticket to watch and you can bring your own beer or enjoy great food and drinks on site!

The SDBA Drag Boat Races are awesome and we love being a part of them. With Flat Bottoms, Jet Boats, Pro Mods, Top Alcohol Hydros and more on hand, there is plenty of action going non-stop for everyone to see. We encourage you to come out and enjoy the racing live and in person, because who doesn’t dig sitting out at the lake anyway! When Last Minute Testing Your Burnout Truck For Cleetus And Cars, Sometimes Your Driveway Becomes The Burnout Pad

Yep, James is no poser, that’s for sure. When under a time crunch to get their LS Swapped S10 Burnout truck, aka Burnie, ready for Cleetus and Cars Burnout Rivals in Indy, sometimes you have to piss off the neighbors. After stealing the trans out of his race car, and going through brake issues and a couple other snags, Burnie was back up and running with just hours to go before leaving for Indy. Of course there were a couple other snags and just an hour before it had to be on the trailer there was testing that needed going. After all, you got to know if there are vibrations, if the new torque converter is okay, and whether the brakes will hold for big time tire frying excitement or not.

Testing was in order and with no time to go anywhere else, the driveway became the burnout pad whether the neighbors liked it or not. Now I happen to know James’ neighborhood. I went there to pick up some tires he hooked me up with for the drive days on Rocky Mountain Race Week in 2019. It’s your average Colorado high desert neighborhood with family homes all around. This is not the country, and it is not remote. It is very close to town.

But the testing had to happen and the results were no vibrations, a tune that needs some tweaks, and brakes that need more bleeding to hold. But most importantly the smoke happened. And lots of it. Watch.

That’s right folks, we’re SUPER excited to be bringing you 5 days of awesome bracket racing from The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway at the 2021 K&N Spring Fling Million presented by Optima Batteries. While the big show starts on Wednesday, we’ll be live on Tuesday afternoon for the American Race Cars, Todd’s Extreme Custom Paint, Dragster Shootout Race. The winner will take home a rolling American Race Cars 240″ Dragster chassis with a complete custom paint job by Todd’s. This is a big shootout for 32 cars and will be the perfect way to start off the weekend here in Vegas.

We will be live Tuesday afternoon, and then all day Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for all the racing action. Check out the flyer below for details on the payout and event prizes, but know that Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday racers will be going after $30,000 to win. Friday is the big money Million race which has a guaranteed purse of $250,000 to the winner regardless of entries. We’re pretty sure this race is going to be off the hook based on our last west coast race this year. Given the fact that all the heavy hitters are heading cross country for it as well, this promises to be one hell of an event.

Rocky Mountain Race Week AND Road Week Registration Is Open! Sign Up Now!

If you dream of driving your hot rod cross country, racing it each and every day, and meeting all kinds of other people that are doing the same thing, then Rocky Mountain Race Week is the event for you. And if you want to go hang out with your friends that are doing it, or just want to follow along to witness the insanity, then sign up too! Rocky Mountain Race Week has two entry options. The Race option and the Road option. Either one offers you the trip of a lifetime and stories for days. And did we mention beautiful scenery and a drive you’ll never forget? Yeah, this is the drag and drive event of 2021 and we’ll be there so you should be too!

Registration starts today and if you want your shot at this great trip in June, then now is the time to sign up. There are classes for everything from your 14 second daily driver to your 5 second street race car, and everything in between. It is spectacle on wheels, the circus your parents warned you about, and a test of true grit for racers. Bonneville Speed Week 2020 is in the books, with George Poteet and the Speed Demon team once again taking home the Hot Rod Trophy, which is impressive as hell considering the challenging conditions at Bonneville National Speedway this year. With this year’s strange climate of COVID and everything else, the number of cars and fans at Speed Week was definitely down, but that might have been a blessing for some as the number of cars going down the race track each day meant it probably stayed in better shape than it would have otherwise. And even though Speed Demon is full of the latest and greatest technology, including very effective traction control, you can’t go down a marginal track as fast as a good one. Period. Traction control doesn’t make you fast, it just helps refine the power a little in the tougher spots.

Don’t for a second think that all our coverage was of Speed Demon though, we’ve got jillions of photos of hot rods, customs, race cars, and more on the salt, and it doesn’t matter what you like you are going to find it in one of these cool photo galleries.

Our Bonneville Speed Week 2020 Photos Continue! Bitchin Hot Rods On The Salt!

One of the ultra cool things about Bonneville are the number of cool old hot rods and customs that show up on the salt on Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend of racing action. It makes us cringe sometimes because we can’t stand the thought of bringing something cool out here and someday rusting out, but many of these dudes have been doing this for years and come out to hang out and be seen and then clean the hell out of the thing and get it back home. The variety is cool, the style is sometimes traditional and sometimes a bit weird, but always fun to check out. Lots of the these guys cruise the pits, hit the starting line area, and just cruise around the salt looking for anything fun and exciting to check out. Of course they are also there to show off these cool rides, so you’ll often times find groups of them parked together somewhere where everyone will see them and take pictures. Of course we’re ultra glad to oblige and think its pretty cool when we can bring something like this to you on such an awesome blank canvas.

We say blank canvas because the salt is arguably the best thing to shoot a car on ever. With very little shadows, amazing reflection of light, and such nice white to bring out the colors, it is unlikely you’ll find a nicer place to shoot a car that doesn’t involve a giant light box and a coved white room. This place is pure rad when it comes to photos.
